Brief Description:  Pitch Servo Install: Part 2

The cable attach blocks are made of aluminum, and due to the clearance between the floor of the cabin and the 1/8" elevator control cable, these were going to continually rub against the aluminum floor. Moreover, this last bay in the floor has the 2" wide channel right in the center of the floor under the cable, which further reduced the clearance. I am assuming the weight and balance of the aircraft will be OK with the placement of the servo this far aft, so to make it work, I fabricated some nylon rub-strips where the cable attach blocks will move (Image 1).

Note to Rebel builders: if you have not completed this installation of the floor, consider adding two longtudinal channels here instead of just one. Also, liberally add some rivnuts (or nut plates) to those channels to facilitate installation of brackets later on. Also consider raising the pulley bracket a bit to give another 1/8" of clearance in this bay. You can have it come back closer to the floor again as it moves through the fairleads going fore. The increased clearance would likely preclude the need for any rub plates here.

Alternatively, use countersunk rivets in the single channel and apply some teflon tape over the rivet run. Sooo easy to replace. Anyway...back to the story....

Though not clearly shown in Image 2, I used a spot facing bit to remove enough nylon to accept the heads of the rivets running below the nylon rub strips. You can see these along the center line in image 1. Images 2 and 3 show how the cable blocks will travel over the nylop rub strips. The blocks had their corners rounded and polished to minimize friction
