Brief Description:  Rudder tip install

Finally completed the installation fo the rudder fiberglass tip. This being my 3rd one, it was an uneventful install. The only difference here was that I decided to forego the machine screws in attaching the ST-40 bracket to the outboard rudder rib, opting for rivets instead (as I alluded to in previous posts). For final install, the metal 'skeleton' will first be rivetted to the rudder through the ST-40 bracket (Image 2). Then the tip will slid onto the structure and riveted in place (Image 3). Again as I note in other posts, to reverse the install, every single rivet (35/35) would need to be removed from the tip before sliding it back off it's metal 'frame'. If I had used screws on the ST-40, only the rivets that hold the tip to the rudder would have to come off (20/35) to remove the tip. For the rudder, I just didn't think it was worth the trouble. It's worth noting that the installation of the ST-40 requires a hole to be drilled in the tip (not shown) so the holes can be drilled through the ST-40 into the outboard rudder rib. Again, there's a lot of extra steps and patience required to make this conform to the design, but I'm convinced it will pay off in the long run.
