Brief Description:  empennage fairings

Tackled the empennage fairings. Not particularly difficult, but required a lot of fiddling, and finding blind holes for rivetting. Fairings have to come off once a year for inspection, and I was convinced sheet metal screws going in and out of these 0.016" fairings would inevitably lead to premature damage to the hoels. Last thing I want to do is re-fabricate something on this plane, so I went with rivnuts instead of the sheet metal screws the manual suggests. On the top surface, all attachments are machine screws in rivnuts (Image 1) . Bottom fairing (Image 3) is eventually rivetted to the fuslage, with machine screws into rivnuts in the stabilizer. You can also see my custom-fabricated aluminum elevator push-rod fairings final-rivetted in place.
