Brief Description:  Elevator fiberglass tips: part 1

Received the Fife elevator tips, and their perfect dimensions made alignment and installation a snap. Used a castellated nut to secure the lead weight since there is a possibility of some rotation about the AN3 bolt (Image 1).

In the MAM instructions, there's an ST-40 angle bracket that should tie the tip to outboard elevator rib (see part 2). Several other builders have skipped this angle because it is very challenging to install when the tips are 'whole' instead of 'halves' (as the MAM tips are before final assembly per manual).

Thinking about this omission however, I realized that in flight, the tip sees constant air pressure from the relative wind anytime the elevator is not in the slip-stream (which is almost always). So this bracket is actually quite important in handling this load on the tip.

To make this work, I drilled a 'whitness' hole in the side of the tip to be able to install the ST-40 angle. In my case, I also attached it with two #8 stainless screws to make it easier to inspect, and somewhat serviceable if need be.
