Brief Description:  Rudder pedal install

So with the work under the panel more-or-less complete, I re-installed the rudder pedals and swaged the nicopress thimbles on the rudder cables. Brakes have been modified as per Murphybuilder archives to have the cyclinders sit against the floor (Image 2) instead of on the pedal assembly, and the rudder movent is all very positive. Incidentally the new rudder horn works beautifully and permits full travel of the rudder.

Image 3 shows the detail around how I attached the diamond-plate to the brake pedal. Ron Shannon used an Adel clamp to hold the plate against the lower tube, which inspired me to use a small piece of 0.016" sheet wrapped tightly around that tube that achieves the same result, and offers a more stable profile than a rubber-padded adel clamp. You can also see here another common mod among builders: the replacement of the retaining 'washer' (that holds the brake pedal unit on the rudder pedal tube) with a small ring of one-size-larger tube (seen here in aluminum, right inside the cotter pin). This again gives the pedals a more uniform surface under the feet. Similarly, I also bent the upper edge of the diamond-plate up toward the pilot to both provide a 'positive' tactile point for my feet to gauge their position on the pedal, as well as an enhanced moment-arm for more uniform/sensitive brake depression.

Image 2 also reveals the omission of brake pedals on the co-pilot side. The weight of the MAM-supplied steel tubes that would enable co-pilot braking is substantial. Also the system is clunky and if poorly installed, prone to an over-center lock situation. These issues, when weighed against the nice-to-have ability for co-pilot braking, made it easy for me to drop this from the build.
