Brief Description:  GTR200 radio install

Garmin GTR 200 radio was ordered and arrived this weekend. Very light weight and a bit shorter than the 400W series GPS, so a perfect fit in the Rebel's 'space-challenged' panel.

Having specifically built the 'rack' to be removable from the front, addition of the radio tray was a snap. Drill six holes, add 4 mm recessed stainless screws and locknuts, and your done (Image 1)(and all while seated comfortably at the bench instead of lying under the panel).

The antenna cable had already been prepared a few weeks ago, so the only wiring left to do was attach 12V power and ground connections, and the 5 connections from the intercom: Audio Hi and Lo, Mic Hi and Lo, and the PTT. Fortunately, I don't need to deal with finicky gound shielding steps on this part, since only one end of the shielded cables needs to be grounded.

The 37-pin D-sub connector is easy to work with, and on power up I was able to hear aircraft communicating with NY approach on 125.7 and the interface with the PM3000 intercom worked flawlessly. Rewarding to have this work first time, so I included my mug in the celebratory shot. On to connecting the wires for the other devices.

PS: yes...I look cross-eyed as a result of the surgery to fix my retinal detachment in September. Still hoping that resolves in a few months.
