Finally got my intake from WW and can now move forward with the carb test-fitting. This in turn allows throttle and mixture cable routing, which then allows the placement of other firewall items in 'less crowded' areas.
In Image 1, I've test-fitted a solid-wire cable in the throttle location. In chatting with McFarlane customer service about a custom throttle cable, some long standing questions got answered. For example, I've often wondered whether those fancy rod-ends on high-end throttle assemblies were absolutely necessary...some even have swivels near the ends for extra flexibility.
Turns out McFarlane won't even make a solid-wire throttle cable installation; they claim they are not as flexible, and more prone to wear and breakage. Instead, they advocate wound-wire cables, that ultimately terminate in threaded rods that accept those fancy rod-ends.
So with this test set-up, I measured specific distances and clearances that McFarlane needs to fabricate the cable assembly.
