Brief Description:  Panel wiring Part 11: Headphone Jacks

I've been endlessly debating where to put the aircraft headphone/mic jacks. I've always liked the idea of having them behind the shoulders, but wanted to be sure they wouldn't interfere with loading luggage in the back, or seatbelts, or even the aileron control tube. I finally settled on a 'horizontal' position just behind the co-pilot position that takes advantage of the existing bulkhead flanges in the ceiling, and keeps the plugs protected from inadvertent contact with items (or an eventual rear passenger} being loaded through that area. While the headset jacks and plugs might see more bending stress from hanging cords this way, I'll have a hook-and-loop cable tie just foward of this position keeps the excess cord supported and up and out of the way.

The box itself is fairly complicated for what it could have been, but this method of attachment allows one to easily pop it off the ceiling with four 8-32 stainless screwsfor servicing. I didn't want to have anything going through the roof skin...not sure why I was so opposed to this, since things like the antennae will be mounted through the roof skin...I guess I didn't want to deal with paint or leak protection.
