Brief Description:  Panel Part 3 - glove box

Just couldn't help myself and dedicated a couple of evenings to this glove box on the pilot side. Not sure how many have put a glove box on the pilot side, but it just makes sense to me, since I will be flying most of the time, and I will want to have easy access to it in flight. One of my biggest gripes while flying my club's skyhawk is that there's no place to just put things. Sure there are side pockets, but since they don't expand they can't hold anything substantial. Also, you can't see what's in them very well. Another skyhawk gripe is the 12V power receptacle position, and the wires that can protrude from the front of the panel, yielding an unsafe web of power cords in the cockpit.

My solution is this glovebox. I has an unusual shape to take as much advantage of the volume behind the panel as possible. In image two, you can clearly see that it is a uniform 6" tall right behind the panel, and tapers down to about 4.5" at the end. It's quite large, and can hold a phone, tablet, sporty's backup radio, approach plates, and AFD.

In images 1 and 2, you can also see the 5V 2A USB charging recptacle (dual USB outputs) I installed on the upper right wall. This is set "up high" in the box to prevent objects from damaging the wires and connectors in flight, or when I toss stuff in there. The plan is to leave a 'permanent' charging cord for whatever device (phone, tablet, etc...) so when I get in the plane, I just plug in the phone, throw it in the box, and securely close the hatch.

In fact, it recently dawned on me that I really want to try and configure the plane as much like a car as possible, because invariably, what always takes time is the individualized set-up of the aircraft every time you get in the club Skyhawk. I have to set up the 12V power dongle to accept my phone, tablet, and Zaon traffic alert system. Then there's headphones and video recording.

My selection of accessories here are driven by having permanent spots for everything.
