Brief Description:  Starter install

So with the engine on the mount, it's time to start adding accessories. In this case it's the starter. It's a William Wynne (WW) component and I've had it for almost 5 years waiting for this day. Interestingly, it's only in the installation that I realise the work WW put into fabricating this part for use on corvairs. The gold anodized attach brackets are solid, and adapted for use to the corvair case. The starter is held in near perfect position for flywheel engagement with the appropriately sized aluminum spacer (Roy's garage). What's very cool is the fact that the 5th bearing unit moves the flywheel forward about an inch, the brackets still work! The other impressive aspect of the starter is the secondary (pilot's side) attach point. It has a monstrous , 1/4" thick aluminum attachment ear, specially-welded-on to the starter body. This clearly took some time to figure out how to make this work in a consistent manner for all builders. Finally, in image 2 you can see the rear-support bracket. This I fabricated myself, but modelled after WW specifications. The longest part in all of this was aquiring the correct bolts (with the correct threading) from various sources (Aircraft spruce does not have a lot of coarse-thread hardware..that comes from McMaster-Carr). Anyway, it all appears ready to go, so on to the alternator bracket.
