It has been suggested on the builders' list that at least one of these brackets be screwed in by tapping the FUS-5 for AN3 bolts (instead of riveting to FUS-5) (see Wayne's posts). This would allow removal of the control column should one need access under the instrument panel. I elected to fabricate a two piece bracket unit, by bending up some 0.063" plate on three sides to fit on the interior of the factory bracket. Once I was satisfied with the fit, I drilled seven 3/16" holes (three on the side, and two on each end), six #11 holes through the floor through FUS-5, and cut off the three flanges from the original bracket.
