Brief Description:  Viking Fuel Orifice

Viking released a service letter that requires the installation of a small orifice in the fuel line to relieve pressure in case of a failure within the high pressure injection system that causes excessive back-pressure in the fuel system. Over a couple of days I got it installed.

The first thing I did was to remove the existing 5/16" hose segment connecting to the pilot side vent line ahead of the header tank. This is where the new access panel on the baggage back came in very handy. Between it and the hell hole, I eas finally able to get the line off the fittings. I then replaced the fuel line segment with a tee fitting and 2 short segments as well as a length of hose to reach the fuel line manifold. Connected that assembly to the header tank and vent line to the main tank.

Removed a plug from the manifold and replaced it with the right-angle fitting from Viking. Added the orifice and nipple to complete the right-angle connector assembly. Finally, I cut the orifice line from the tee fitting and secured it to the nipple. Added a zip-tie connector to the baggage back and further secured the orifice line.

While I was working in the area, I loomed and secured some of the header tank pump wiring on both sides.

Since the orifice is downstream of the backflow preventers attached to the manifold and is run to the pilot side vent, the pilot side will always have a tiny amount of re-supply when either header pump is running. I don't know if it is enough to care about, but I will always run off the pilot side before switching to the passenger side. During phase 1 testing I will determine how much the orifice will add to an empty pilot side main tank when the passenger side header pump is active. I don't think it will be significant.
