Brief Description:  Sanded/polished out adhesive dribbles

Well, unfortunately that adhesive that got on the windshield when I attached the trim bonded quite solidly to the windshield and nothing would get it off. My only option other than a new $500 windshield and the pain of refitting it was to try and scrape it off and try to repair the scratches. So I bought the polishing pads, polishing compound (2 types), and some wet/dry sandpaper at 800, 1500, and 2000 grits. Experimented on an inconspicuous area at the lower passenger side first. I scraped as much as I could off with a knife edge until it felt about level with the windshield. Then I wet sanded with progressively finer grit sandpapers by hand and finally used the polisher and compounds. Looked pretty good, so I repeated for all the exterior drips with the windshield on the plane as that gave me a stable surface to work with. After the outside was done, I took off the windshield and repeated for the fewer drips on the inside. Cleco'd the windshield back in place and evaluated the results.

From the outside, you can't really see any defects unless you know where to look. From the inside, it looks pretty good except for a cluster of raindrop size clear distortions where the worst of it was. I can live with it. The minor defects will remind me of the importance of attention to detail and serve as horizon markers. I may try adding a protective clear coat later, but for now I'm calling it good.
