Brief Description:  Mounted prop, pitched, and started engine with pro

As part of getting the plane ready for the fly-in in our neighborhood next weekend, I'm putting almost all of the plane together, although not for the final time. As part of this, I decided to mount and pitch the prop and run the combination.

Jan said to start at 20 degrees and experiment from there. So I assembled the prop and loose mounted it to the engine. Using a digital level I established a vertical reference on the prop hub. The with each blade horizontal, I adjusted the pitch using the digital level at the 25cm from the blade tip indicated by the manufacturer. The back of the blade is not perfectly flat, so I got it as close as I could on each blade using the level.

For the trip to the runway, I had already removed the wings. With the wings off, and some fuel in the header tanks, I rolled the plane out of the shop and secured the tail tie-down ring to a tree. I also chocked the wheels.

Started the engine. No prop parts went flying off the plane, and it felt good. The idle speed is still high, so I might need to give the prop some more bite. Tried various RPMs and all seems good.
