Brief Description:  Cowling fiberglass work - Upper

With the exterior fiberglass good and cured, it was time to re-split the cowling. First, I put the spinner backplate on the prop extension and traced a circle slightly larger than the backplate. Then I used a cutoff wheel to re-split the halves of the cowling and to rough-cut the big hole. After removing the cardboard and engine protecting material, I removed the top cowling. It came off looking pretty good.

Started to work on the interior of the top cowl. Cleaned up some loose cloth and bubbles from imperfect exterior application. Mixed some more resin and laid an interior layer over the thin areas where the cowl sections were removed. Let dry.

Prepped for another layer. Went ahead and riveted the piano hinge halves and NACA inlet. Mixed up more magic goo and added another layer to the nose and a layer to the NACA underside.

I'm running low on repair supplies, so will need to get more resin/hardener and cloth before continuing.
