Brief Description:  Flaperon Controls & Outboard Mounting

I attached the flaperon control rods to the mixer and belcranks. I already had the vertical rods an the mixer attached to the bellcranks, so it went fairly quickly. It became obvious though that making adjustments via the access hatch would be extremely difficult so I de-riveted the lower baggage backs and removed them along with the center channel sides. I should have done that a while back as it would have made other portions of the rigging much easier. If I had a time machine, I would have just cleco'd rather than riveted that whole area.

Before starting to mount the flaperons, I final drilled the rear wing spar attach holes and bolted. Where possible I'm using castle nuts and cheap hardware for initial mounting and will use the good stuff when mounting for the final time as I will be removing the wings and flaperons a number of times before I'm done.

In mounting the outboard flaperons, it doesn't really seem possible to get the full specified clearance between the wing trailing edge and the flaperon skin. The best I could do is probably 3 mm or so too close, but I can't see that being an issue. The HBH video seems to have the same clearance problem and he seems to fly just fine. I just drilled as high as possible on the flaperon mounts without rubbing. Started out with my long #30 bit to back drill the pilot hole, then removed the flaperons and expanded to 5/16" on the flaperon brackets and 1/4" on the arms. Could have used a 3rd arm to assist in getting the bolt hardware in place correctly, but eventually got it done. Used temporary castle nuts here as well.

Note from the future: In retrospect, I should not have worried so much about the gap between the trailing edge and flaperons. Things would have fit much better if the flaperons were mounted higher (smaller gap). Should have test fit control rod hardware to try to get good radius on inboard rotation before worrying about outboard.
