Brief Description:  Positioned /drilled L-angles, fitted & drilled bot

Lots of progress today.

Started out by positioning and drilling the L-angles between the ribs. Ebay delivery of a set of stap duplicators came at the perfect time. See yesterdays entry for the pics for this part. With nothing to clamp onto I thought I was going to have to do the find the line through the hole trick on all the angles. Then I got an idea. I filed down the upper tip of one of the strap duplicators so that when an L-angle is inserted flush to the tip it would put the hole on an L-angle centerline. Now all I had to do was position the duplicator over a pre-drilled hole (upsized to #30), insert the L-angle, and drill. Just had to make sure the L-angle was positioned horizontally correctly (not overlapping a rib flange). Doing this 2 or 3 times per L-angle provided perfectly positioned holes which were cleco'd. The remaining holes could then be back-drilled when the skeleton and bottom skin was flipped. Took hardly any time at all and required no contortions or center line marking.

Fitting the bottom skins is pretty simple as well as long as you make sure the overlaps are done properly (thank you Jon Croke). I did modify his build platform slightly by adding a 2nd 2" square pipe. That allows repositioning of the skeleton without worrying about cleco's hitting the sawhorses and provides support the entire length of the wing. Absolutely no twist is applied to the assembly as verified by a digital level. Clamping the rear spar ends to one of the square pipes helped stabilize the framework during drilling so it didn't move easily from bumps. After skins are positioned for drilling (nose skins temporarily tucked under to take advantage of pre-drilled holes) the main spar was drilled to #30 then #20.

Finally, positioned and drilled initial holes for strut angle attachment.
