Brief Description:  Riveted, Fitted to Rudder

Over the last several days I got the vertical fin riveted with Cortec priming. Trimmed excess skin from spar overlap. Didn't have top rib angle where it needed to be so repositioned and added rivets. Gap with rudder was still too large, so removed rivets from the rudder cap so I could adjust that angle. I may end up getting a replacement rudder cap and trim it to allow a longer flange in front. The riveted hinge angles and spar moved freely when attached to the rudder, but the addition of the stifeners and skin caused slight binding with the rudder mounted. A combination of slightly bending the spar flanges and some slight grinding of the flanges relieved the binding and enabled the rudder to get approximately 20 degrees of travel each way. I measured travel angles by placing cardboard between the top of the fin and rudder cap and transcribing the arc of the rudder cap. Radius to piano hinge was approx 25 mm, so I was able to draw the angles and measure with a digital angle finder. I figure the numbers are within the margin of error for this method. I know they get measured again when all the tail feathers get mounted. For now I'm setting this aside till then. I'm not sure how everything is going to work out until it all comes together. I'm looking forward to starting the wings anyways.
