Brief Description:  Final assembly and a big oops!

Final assembly of the elevator was going along quite well until I got to riveting the top skin and discovered the problem shown below. I really should have seen this sooner. Apparently when I laid out the piano hinge, I correctly aligned it with the leading edge of the top skin per the instructions, but didn't pay attention to the location of the lower lip curve in relation to the top skin edge. On the left side the top edge is more forward into the bend (ok location for hinge barrel clearance) than on the right. All my holes on the skin and ribs fit perfectly, and everything seems level, so I suspect a minor variation in the lip bend above the rib end upper rivet points. It would have been a simple fix to push in the lip to where it needed to be along the edge and secure before drilling, but I apparently fixated on getting the hinge positioned correctly relative to the top skin edge, which I did quite well. Sent Roger an email and photos to see if anything can be done, but I suspect a new elevator skin will be needed since the holes on the bottom lip are increasingly aft of where they need to be from left to right.

I'm going to set the elevator aside for the time being and probably work on the vertical fin until I get this figured out.
