I re-installed the starter, having sent it off for correction of a small case crack, which I believed could grow. The starter would not turn over smoothly after replacement.
I discussed this with the factory, which suggested my battery was not charged or defective. I followed this train of logic, and tried to test with the exact configuration used sussessfully before, and a freshly charged battery. The starter seemed to drag.
I was forced to the conclusion that the replacement starter was defective. I removed it, and returned it for repair. A call from the factory a few days later indicated that the starter had a bad bearing.
