Brief Description: Finished and Installed Elevators
I began installing the elevators to the horizontal stabilizer. Part of the horizontal stab skin had to be trimmed on the top and bottom of each side in order for the counterbalance arm of the elevators to swing freely. I then checked that there was no interference or binding throughout the range of motion of the elevators. After taking care of that, I attached and secured the elevators "in trail" so that the hinge bearing attachement holes could be drilled in the elevator horns (using the recommended "drill bushing" through the VA-146 hinge bearing).. Once that was complete, I installed all nuts and bolts loosely in case anything needs to be altered when installed to the fuselage. I'll wait to add the fiberglass tips until the end of the project, so the empenage is complete for now!
