Brief Description:  Stuff while waiting for Wx to clear

I can’t fly today so I thought I would work on stuff that is nice to have for the first flight. The first was to install the “Nose Job”, it is a device that helps keep the nose gear leg from bending at the narrow point if the nose where to dig into say mud landing off field. The “A” model RV’s have a tendency to flip over on their backs when landing off field. Some have also had the leg fold but not flip on taxi by hitting a gopher hole or one guy hit the lip of new asphalt. I have not heard of an RV-8A doing it but to be on the safe side I bought this aftermarket solution.

With this installed I put on the cowl and ran the engine. This is the first time with the cowling do it will give me a chance to make sure there is no chaffing on the inside fo the cowl and I can see if those cylinder studs are leaking. What I found out is the studs get oiled on assembly and the oil drops I saw was more than likely assembly oil wicking up. I also did a short taxi test with this engine run. Everything went well, I had a tiny drop of oil in the same place on #3 and none on #2 so it looks like not leak just assembly oil.

I spent the rest of the day updating my electronic units to the latest firmware from Dynon, I plan to install a newer fuel pressure gauge since the one I have read 5 psi too high.
