One of the guys at our airfield who did the first flight on his RV-8 a couple of weeks ago, picked up a fuel leak on one of his tanks when he filled it for the first time and had to remove it from his freshly painted plane to fix! He also pressure tested the tanks like we did just after building them.
We thus decided to fill the RH tank with mogas, leave it for a week and then transfer it to the LH tank just to make 100% sure.
Installed two additional 7/16" hardware store bolts in the spar to help carry the extra weight of the fuel and installed all the mounting screws in the tank.
Plugged the fuel pickup, installed the drain and fabricated a temporary vent line.
Filled the RH tank and checked for leaks. Everything looks good but we will conclude by the end of the week.
