Brief Description: Riveted VS attach plate and installed elevators
Removed the vertical stab from the fuselage and uncleco'd the attach plate and spacer from the front spar. Cleco'd the spacer to the attach plate and match drilled the top outboard holes.
In retrospect it would have been much easier to align the spacer if we had match drilled it using the attach plate before assembly. Match drilling the spacer on a drill press would also provide a perpendicular guide for the angle drill while drilling the vertical stab front spar.
Cleco'd the spacer to the aft web of vertical stab front spar and match drilled the top outboard holes from the back.
Deburred and primed the spacer and attach plate and then riveted them to the vertical stabilizer front spar with the pneumatic squeezer.
Reinstalled the vertical stab on the fuselage.
Installed the elevators and determined the amount of spacer washers required between the elevator horns and flange bearing. Installed the bolt and spacer washers by using a piece of dental floss to hold the washers in position while inserting the bolt. (It would have been much easier to do this before installing the VS)
Clamped the counterbalance arm of each elevator to the outboard end of the horizontal stab to lock them in the neutral position.
Marked the elevator pushrod attachment bolt hole location on the aft most (RH) elevator horn and drilled to #40.
