Trimmed the bottom end of the VS-702 about 3/16" less than specified on the plans as we were concerned about edge distance on the bottom holes.
Marked out and drilled the 1/8" locating hole in the rear spar as per "Aft View" DWG 78.
Cleco'd the vertical stab to the fuselage using the locating hole, and then lightly clamped the front spar and F-885 spacer to the F-884 attach plate.
Squared the vertical stab as per instructions and clamped the rear spar through the access holes in the aft side skins.
Marked out the locations of the three bolt holes used to attach the bottom of the vertical stab spar to the fuselage. (The 7/8" difference in height between the bottom and top holes is incorrect on DWG73 and should be 1 23/32". The instructions also say to final drill these holes #12 which is incorrect as the RV-8 uses AN4 bolts here). Double checked to make sure the vertical stab was still square to the horizontal and then drilled / reamed the holes to 1/4" and installed the bolts.
Used the angle drill to match drill #30 the two holes in the vertical stab rear spar using the two 1/8" holes in the F-812B-1 Angle / Control Stop. Drilled and reamed the holes and installed the AN3 bolts.
