While I was struggling to align the fuel cap flange on the skin, Mike Beukman (RV7 builder) arrived at the hanger and offered to help me by turning a spacer bush on his lathe.
He went home and returned a short while later with this nifty alignment tool that worked like a charm - Thanks Mike!
The spacer bush is inserted into the fuel cap flange and has a step machined on it that centres it on the hole in the skin. It is held in place by a bolt and large washer.
