Brief Description: Adjust secondary timing using timing light
I decided to use a timing light to re-time my secondary ignition. When doing a mag check my rpm's would drop about 100 rpm when the engine was running only on the secondary ignition. I put some preliminary marks using white-out on the starter gear and the rear case, after lining up the static timing marks on the prop hub with the front case center. I didn't want to work near that spinning prop! After a little trial and error I got a good set of reference marks, based on using the timing light on the primary ignition. I then switched the light to the secondary and saw that it was advanced too much. I rotated the trigger magnet a bit to retard the spark. After a few trials I was able to get the timing on both the primary and secondary systems to match. My mag check now is much better -- the rpm drops about 30 rpm when running on just one ignition system.
