Brief Description: Calibration of the Garmin 3X auto-pilot
The five post-installation calibration test for the Garmin 3X are somewhat daunting though straight forward once the aircraft is set-up according to the Garmin instructions.
The second calibration failed in Pitch owing to the AHRS not being installed parallel with the aircraft when in level flight; the avionics panel is set back about 5˚. This was solved by tilting the AHRS mount forward.
The third calibration failed in interference owing to vibration in the avionic panel. This was solved by using right angle aluminium to tie the avionics panel to the forward luggage compartment bulkhead.
The downside to these calibration tests is having to carry out ground runs with a new engine. The engine check out runs and calibrations in all lasted just on an hour.
