The drilling of the Landing Gear Attach Brackets was done using a number of small carbon drills before drilling the hole with the exact size drill. The smaller drills used a sleeve from fuel pipe machined to the correct size on a lathe. Finally, a reamer was used on all holes. There were two AN 4 rivets on the lower longeron close to the Outboard Attach Plate which seemed unnecessary close to the bolts, as seen on DWG 75, I question if these rivets are really needed? Something to ask Van’s if you have not already drilled them…it is a heart attack moment when you first look at the longeron after drilling the bolt holes, but the plans do show the AN rivets to be closer that should be allowed.
