The main Aileron Control pushrods W-816 cleaned up fine using a 12 bore shotgun cleaning rods; no metal brushes were used. The inside was then painted with a green Zinc Chromate spray paint. The riveting of the Aileron Bellcrank pushrods was fine.
The Small Aileron Control Rods W-818 were cleaned using a rifle cleaning kit and the riveting of the ends with an AN426AD4-12 rivet was a disaster. New ones were ordered and the threaded rod ends were welded on by a person with a CAA 'welder's approval' certificate; Shellac Inhibiting Oil BS2X18 was put into the tubes before welding. A much neater and thoroughly better job.
