I noticed that I had not install the modification specified in Service Bulletin 16-03-28-9 when I installed the Aileron Hinge Assemplies on the Right Rear Wing Spar. This SB is important because it reinforces an area to prevent small cracks at the Aileron Bracket Attach Point. I emailed Van's Support with a couple of photos explaining what I did and the called me withing five minutes!! The tech suggested that I could still apply the modification since I had not yet riveted on the Bottom Skin. All I had to do was to carefully remove the 8 rivets, clean and Alodine the new parts and re-assemble and rivet it back together. I did all that on the Right Wing and had no problems. I'll do the Left Wing Mod when I get the Left Wing on the worktable. Moving on to work on the Aileron Bellcranks. Two 1 1/16" Spacers had to be made (one for each bellcrank).
Note: Van's issues Service Bulletins whenever a modification has to made on in-progress or finished aircraft. Typically a safety issue and/or improvement to structure is addressed.
