Today I 1500 grit wet sanded the instrument panel. Recoated with basecoat, clearcoat and 2 fogged on coats to give the panel a matte finish. This time it turned out exactly as I wanted. I wanted the same colour without the glare. It's hard to see, but picture 1 is glossy and picture 2 had an intentional dry overspray on it to achieve the matte finish.
