Brief Description:  landing gear covering

To prevent rust inside the landing gear tubing, I drill a 1/8th hole at the end of each tube and poor some linseed oil in it. Move the gear to force the oil to go everywhere. Let them drip a few days then put rivets to close the holes.
Covered the landing gear with Poly-fiber material ( medium-1). I used Poly-tak to stick the material to the tubing. After one day of drying I used an iron to stretch the fabric. The iron must be calibrated to 250 degree F for the first pass then increase the temperature to 350 for the final stretch. Then I put Poly-brush on it ( one coat). I then put a finishing tape on the contour. I used Poly-brush to joint the tape to the edges. After about one hour of drying time I brush another coat of Poly-brush to cover all the material.

tips.....to remove the wrinkles on the edges adjust the temperature to 225 degree and do the edges. You will end up with a smooth finish.

I had the chance to have a good coach. My friend, Claude Caron just finished restoring a Champion Citabria and he did all the covering with Poly-fiber material so he teach me how to do it. He also give me all the material that I need. Thanks Claude......and Sylvain for the Poly-tak.
