Brief Description:  Rudder

The Vertical Tail and Rudder are substantially complete. There remains the installation of the plastic tips. The instructions say simply, "install the plastic tips". No hints or guidance. No big deal, but I had to think of a good way to do it without making mistakes. After sort of playing around and fitting the parts without really doing anything constructive, it occurred to me to just transfer the holes and placement of the tips with paper. Put paper in place, put plastic tip in place, mark the paper so that it can be repositioned on the plastic tip, remove paper from rudder, put on the plastic tip, drill holes. Worked first time, and accurately. Holes lined up perfectly. Take your time and insure that the tip is straight, and not tipped over to the side, and that the one on the vertical tail and the rudder tip are approximately at the same height. Note that the rudder tip was just a bit short and a small cut must be made to allow it to slip over the rudder trailing edge. This troubled Nancy more than it did me. I will be using this method for the horizontal stab and elevator tips as well.

Now that the major tail components are complete (Horizontal Stabilizer, Elevator, Vertical Tail and Rudder) it is time now to decide what to do next. Because damage from the shippers seems to be mostly to the wing skins and other bits, I think it is on to the fuselage.
