Brief Description:  Riveting the Aileron

Today I finished the 2nd aileron. I did a couple of things differently with this one. First of all, I used a reamer to enlarge the holes in the new leading edge skin to #30. The fit great with the existing holes in the spar and trailing edge skin. Gotta love matched hole punching!

2nd, when I drilled the holes in the counterbalance tube I used Boelube. I don't know why I didn't think of this the first time but that is probably why I ended up breaking drill bits. I also used a spring center punch to mark the tube through the prepunched holes before I drilled them #40. This kept the drill bit from walking. It all came out great this time.

That is until I went to blind rivet the counterbalance tube to the nose ribs. I pulled a bonehead move and blind riveted it backwards. That meant the holes didn't line up with the skin and I had to drill out the two blind rivets. That turned out to be a piece of cake. I used a #33 drill bit which drilled right through and did not enlarge the hole. They came out really easy after that. The rest of the process went just as before and was pretty painless.
