Brief Description:  Countersinking the Flap Brace

Tonight I worked on fixing a mistake that I made. The build manual seems to imply that the builder is supposed to dimple the flap brace, so that is what I did. In reality it needs to be countersunk so that the flap hinge can lay flat on top of it and the dimples of the skin can go in to the bottom.

I emailed Vans about it and they told me the best thing to do was to flatten the dimples and then countersink the flap brace. I flattened the dimples using my flush rivet dies in my pneumatic squeezer. Then I took a long piece of wood (fence slat) and clamped it behind the flap brace so that I would have a good guide hole for the countersink bit. I match drilled through the holes in the brace in to the wood. I then clecoed every other hole and then countersunk, moved the cleos and countersunk the rest of the holes.
