Brief Description:  Building the Tanks

I worked on the left tank today. I started out by drilling the holes for the platenuts and riveting the platenuts to the Z brackets.

After that I moved on to clamping and drilling the T-405 and T-410 to their respective end ribs. I also modified the T-405 and T-410 on the inboard rib to accept the fitting for the flop tube.

I moved on to cutting the hole in the inboard rib for the access plate with the fly cutter and drill press. I also drilled the hole for the fitting for the vent tube and also drilled a hole and match drilled for the drain flange for my fuel return line in this tank.

I clamped and drilled the holes for the T-411 access plate cover without the holes in it for the fuel sender. The fuel sender will move to the 2nd bay so that it doesn't interfere with the flop tube. After that I clecoed on the T-407 and drilled all the platenut attach holes. Then I deburred and dimpled everything and riveted on the platenuts and T-407.

I then fitted and drilled the fuel cap flange and the drain flange. Finally, I deburred and dimpled all the ribs and stiffeners and deburred the tank skin.
