Brief Description:  Fitting the Leading Edges

I completed all but one step of fitting the leading edges today. The only issue I ran in to was interference with my wing stand. I had to modify it a bit to get to all the rivet holes and even at that I had to use a 90 degree drill to get to some of them. I may look at ways to modify it further to allow access going forward.

I placed both leading edges on their respective spars in sequence. I worked one and then the other. I started out by clecoing and drilling the ribs to the spar. I also clecoed the leading edge skin to the spar. I then cleaned up the W-423 joint plates and slid the plates between the skin and the W-408-1 rib. The fit perfectly with a little wiggling. I clamped them down to the skin and rib and drilled and clecoed all the holes.

I then moved on to match drilling all the holes between the skins and the ribs. I also match drilled and dimpled the access plate and doubler for the stall warner system to fill the cutout on the left wing leading edge. I'm not installing the stall warner because I am installing an AOA system but I still needed to fill the cutout for the access plate.

Finally, I extended the lines off of the main skins on to the leading edges for the tiedown holes. They matched the prepunched holes and I enlarged them to 1/4" for now. I'm going to wait until the leading edge is off the wing again to enlarge them to 3/8" because the tiedowns interfere with the unibit.
