After I made and installed a permanent cirquit board & housing with the optocoupler solution it turns out this isn't the way to go after all, it gives perfect stable readings as long as enough current is flowing, once the battery is fully charged and the current flow reduces, it seems the signal drops away somehow, I don't understand why this is, I would need to have a diagram of that Harley voltage regulator to try and understand what's happening.
Anyway, I gave up on the alternator RPM pickup solution and bought a Garmin G3X hall effect sensor that screws into the D2000 magneto, this works perfectly and is a much easier solution, I should have done this straight away.
Various other things have been happening over the last week or two, I've done some more adjustments on the flaps and ailerons and re-did all the cable attachments on the FWF as recommended by my TC (I had them rubbing the mount, he recommends doing the cable ties in a figure 8 so they don't touch whatever they are attached to).
Various other little things have been done, to much to remember and log.
