I bought my engine from another Sonex builder who decided part way through his project the Sonex was not the right plane for him so he bought a bigger certified aircraft. The engine has been making its way to Australia for the last month or so, it arrived last Friday and today became available for pickup at the port in Sydney. I borrowed a ute from my wife's work to go pick it up and my friend's 2 ton crane to lift the crate.
This engine is a bit of a project on its own, a lot of the engine resembles Scott Casler’s 2400cc Hummel engine but some of the design features are custom.
However, I like the ideas the former owner had in designing this engine and mostly brand new high quality parts were used throughout so I’m looking forward to completing this project. Also the price was not too bad so if some of the features have to be changed to more classic design it will not be at too great a loss.
I guess the custom accessory package is what stands out the most, but other features make it quite a unique engine as well, here’s a summary of the package, let me know what you think:
