Brief Description:  Windows

Moment of truth day. Today I glued on the first window, specifically, the right rear. The process included backfilling a thin coat of Silpruf on the exposed line on the inside of the window. I then applied adhesive to the fuselage flange and mounted the window. I removed the excess around the exterior gap and then removed the masking tape on the fuselage exterior. I then went inside and smoothed out the Silpruf around the inside gap. I then removed the 1/4" tape which defines the adhesive line on the window. Lastly, I removed the inside masking tape around the window perimeter. Since this was my first attempt there were a few lessons I learned. First, apply a very generous amount of Silpruf to the fuselage flange. Second, on the inside, I found it better to use my finger to smooth out the adhesive vice the small spatula used in the video. It provided better coverage and avoided scraping off adhesive on the fuselage. Third, remove the masking tape on the inside of the fuselage around the window perimeter. The videos aren't clear about this step but I believe doing it now before the adhesive dries will provide a smoother edge. Now to let things dry for a few days. My shop is comfortably on the cool side, so I'm planning of four days before I pull the clecos.
