Having built two RVs and two Rans airplanes, I've had a fair amount of experience with fiberglass. So, I generally don't complain about the medium too much. But this cabin top and doors, albeit not that difficult, is just a butt load of glass. I can't imagine the work associated with a fully composite airplane...especially the EZ/Cozy builds. In any case, like many -10 builders, I'm going to install the McMaster-Carr door seals. As a result of that decision, there is a bit more work to do to prepare the cabin top for those seals. Today was one of the days I wasn't looking forward to. I had previously marked the appropriate 1/4" gap on the left side cabin top door opening. Today I broke down and sanded the entry lip down to provide for the 1/4" gap. The process was quite messy but very easy. I cleaned up the edge and sanded the "gutter" for a leveling mixture. I spotted this modification in one of the other Kitlog -10 sites. I layed 2" wide by 1/4" weatherstripping along the inside edge of the door and extended the stripping to the edge of the cabin top door opening. I mixed up Cab and micro to get a very thick filler which I applied all along the remaining gutter. I did not address the bottom edge of the door opening. That offset will be addressed next. I covered the weatherstripping in packing tape and reinstalled the assembly back on the plane. We'll see tomorrow how it all went.
You can see the weatherstripping along the aft edge of the door.
