Brief Description:  Adjust carburetor NOT sucessful

While running the engine the past few times, I was only able to get the idle down to about 950 RPM before the engine would want to stall, so today I adjusted the carburetor a little more rich, about 1/3 of a turn, thinking this would allow the engine to go to a lower idle. Apparently, 1/3 of a turn was way too much as now the engine runs like crap. I can only get to about 2800 RPM maximum and she doesn’t increase RPMs smoothly. In addition, the lowest I can get her to idle is still about 950-1000 RPMs. Next time at the airport I’ll have to adjust it back to where it was. It was really surprising how crappy the engine ran with just a 1/3 of a turn adjustment.

I also got a radio check from the FBO and was loud and clear. At first, I thought there was some serious electrical noise issues with my transceiver, because as I increased the RPMs of the engine, at a certain point, I could suddenly hear the engine in my headset. It had me stumped for a minute or two as I sat there perplexed. Until I realized that as the engine RPMs increase, so does the noise from the engine. So what I was hearing was the point at which the engine noise was loud enough to exceed the intercom squelch. D’oh! I was hearing the engine noise through my own microphone.
