Brief Description: Attempted to check the engine timing
Today I brought my youngest daughter, Amy, to the airport to help me adjust the engine timing. Amy was to sit in the cockpit and keep control of the airplane while I adjusted the timing - at least that was the original plan. After we pushed the plane out and tied the tail down, I tried to see how close the timing was, but the %@*% timing light wouldn’t work. After a while of fiddling with it I gave up. Of course, about that time I discovered a small fuel leak from the gascolator. I had installed a galvanized plug into one of the unneeded outlet ports on the gascolator, but apparently this wasn’t the right type of plug, I needed to install the brass plug. Maybe it has something to do with taper, I don’t know, but the galvanized plug and the brass plug were the same size and thread and the galvanized one leaked and the brass one didn’t.
