Over the past three days I worked on installing the windshield. I started by installing the solid aluminum round stock (windshield bow) that came from Sonex pre-bent which acts as the back of the windshield. I couldn't locate any dimension for the height that this was supposed to be, so I installed it as is. Fortunately, the next thing to be put in place was the windshield itself, which showed that the bow was installed too high. Was a simple matter to cut this down so that the windshield was long enough to reach both sides. Next up was the windshield. I tried to be as careful as possible because I've read about so many horror stories about people breaking their windshield and canopy on installation. So far so good.
I did come up with a brain storm (fart). I decided to install nutplates at the front and both sides of the windshield instead of trying to install the locking nuts in that hard to reach area under the windshield. (I drilled and tapped the round stock windshield bow at the rear of the windshield). I plan to install an aluminum strip where all the nut plates are attached for each side. This strip will be against the lexan and will be painted just like the glare shield. I think it will look ok – and sure will be easier than trying to install the locking nuts way up under the windshield. I painted the underside of the bow with the same paint as the glareshield, and the top portion, where the windshield and canopy meet, I painted black
Also dipped the flap and brake handles into the yellow 'Plasti-dip'. It ended up pretty decent, although I think I put 1 too many coat on (5), I think it looked better at 4 coats. See image 2.
