Today was an exciting day as I was finally able to install the landing gear and wheels and take the plane off the saw horses and onto its own wheels.
Drilling through the Titanium was not difficult, as long as you follow Kerry's instructions from the video on EAA. The biggest problem I had was drilling through the landing gear and legs for the rear hole. On my first attempt, I busted a drill bit inside the gear leg and landing gear. Fortunately I was able to smash the remains of the drill bit enough so I could get the leg out to remove the bit remains. On the next attempt, I used a slightly smaller bit the drill a pilot hole and drilled it out to the correct size from the rear.
I also had a tough time getting the nut on the spindle far enough for the cotter pin to fit, without the nut so tight that the wheel doesn't turn. I ended up sanding both sides of the wheels a bit to make the wheel skinnier and grinded a bit off the rear spacer. Once I did that I was able to get the cotter pin through the hole. I figure after a few miles on the bearings, they'll loosen up a bit and I'll have to tighten the nut a quarter turn or so.
