Today I was a bit frustrated about how the wing and tail tips turned out, so I turned my attention instead to the wheels and tires. The wheels fit together pretty well, so there wasn't much work needed on those. The only real problem I had was drilling the axle for the cotter pin. These axles already have a hole drilled into the axle from the end parallel to the axle. The hole I have to drill intersects the manufacturers drilled hole. What I found was that on one of the axles a little portion of the drill bit from the manufacturers was stuck inside the hole they drilled, and when I drilled my hole I couldn't get through, I kept dulling my bits. Fortunately, the piece fell out and then I understood why I couldn't drill it. Once I sharpened my bits again, it went right through.
After I packed the bearings and assembled the wheel, I had a hard time tightening the wheel bolt tight enough so that the cotter hole was in the right place, I double checked the measurement and the assembly and everything is right, just really, really tight. Got frustrated again...will go back to painting the tips again tomorrow.
