Got my cowl back from after it was painted by a local technical college. I know the auto body and painting instructor at the tech college and he thought his class would learn something painting fiberglass so they painted it for a little more than the material costs which is a good deal for me.
When I took the cowling to the tech school, I took pictures of how I wanted it to look - I wanted a yellow a cowling with 4” black diamonds. My original plan was for two rows of diamonds going around the cowling, but somehow I didn’t communicate this well and they painted diamonds over the entire cowling. In the end, I’m glad they did because it looks better than the idea I had. The three images show the cowling.
Before I flew today, I decided that if I changed to the bigger number needle I may be able to get more RPMS, so I changed the needle. After a couple of hours of tweaking on the carburetor (again) I went up for a short, half-hour flight. The engine did not run as good as it did with the other needle, so I wasted half a day for no benefit.
