Brief Description: Frustrating day with the canopy
Today was really a frustrating day trying to install the canopy. To make matters worse, I had zero help taking the canopy on and off. Wife and daughter are away for the weekend, so my help was even less than usual.
At one point I was standing there looking at the canopy and how it seemed like I had screwed up ANOTHER canopy; it didn’t fit fore or aft well at all. I had my 3 pound hammer in my hand and I breathed in the air to say screw it (or words to that affect) and smash the hammer through the canopy, but I stopped. Instead I took a break and walked around cursing to myself and calmed down. After a while I was able to go back to work and decided to disassemble the canopy frame and make some adjustments. Fortunately, after the adjustments it looks like the canopy isn’t going to fit too bad. For awhile there it looked like I was going to have about a 3/4” gap between the windshield and canopy – completely unacceptable.
I would say the canopy installation is now 90% complete but I don’t plan to do any work on the plane until next Saturday. I plan to spend every night this week studying for the oral part of my check ride on Friday – and also fit in a lesson or two with my CFI. Sure will be nice to finally get my Sport Pilot certificate.
