The adventure begins.....
After viewing all those magnificent warbirds at the 2008 EAA Airventure, my wife and I took a stroll to find a good place to see the upcoming air show. During this stroll, we passed through the homebuilders section and I peeked at some of the vendors and their planes. As we wandered through the vendors stands, what I saw reinforced my original attitude towards homebuilt aircraft. Namely, the homebuilts were mostly metal rod with fabric covering construction or were like the composites, priced way out of my price range, or both. Then we came to the Sonex Aircraft site. When I saw the $25,600 price tag on the aluminum-constructed Sonex, and this price was almost identical to what I had recently spent to turn a rusted out piece of junk 1936 Chevrolet Standard Sedan into a Hot Rod, the wheels in my brain started to turn. Actually, I decided that day that I was going to build an airplane.
